What To Ask Insurance Companies

When shopping for car insurance, ask the insurance companies any questions you have.  Get to know them and find out what they are actually able to provide to you.  Here are some things you should ask them before signing a contract.

How Are Claims Made?

No one wants to file an insurance claim, but doing so is part of the reason you have insurance protection. Find out what the process for filing a claim is prior to using the service.  Some insurance companies make it a point to come out to your accident location within 24 hours, others do not. Some companies require a specific form to be filled out and faxed to them.  Repairs may need to be done by specific auto repair shops. As you can see, there are many stipulations that fall into the claim process. Knowing how the process works from the start allows you to determine who gets your business.

Where Is Your Local Agent?

Most insurance companies still work through local agents. Local insurance agents provide you with service close to home. They may be able to come to your home to file claims or they are available to take your payment if you do not have time to mail it in. There are many other reasons to use these agents, but ultimately, your goal is to have a local provider if at all possible.

Why Should You Buy From Them?

With hundreds of insurance companies available around the country, there are options out there for you. Ask the insurance company what benefits they can offer to you in comparison to other companies.  Take note of the customer service you get through the agent, too.  Are they answering your calls quick enough?  Are they friendly and informative when speaking to you?  These are all signs of good customer service, which is something you should expect.

Shopping Around

Finally, do not settle for the insurance company your family has had or the company you see on commercials more so than others.  Any company that is legally able to provide you insurance in your state is a company to consider working with. Many are now offering a very simple online quote process where you will input your information and within a matter of minutes have a quote for insurance coverage in front of you.  This minimizes the amount of time you spend working with an agent while it still provides you with a no obligation quote.  Get these from several insurance companies and compare them.

Car insurance is not an option in most states.  Each state carries required minimum liability coverage, or the amount of insurance coverage you must have to protect other drivers on the road you may injury or get into an accident with.  The insurance policy you get must meet your state's required minimums, and can be more than this.  The additional amount helps to protect you and your vehicle.

By comparing car insurance companies closely and looking at all of the options you have, you will find both a good auto insurance company to work with and an affordable price. Most insurance companies are willing to work within your budget and they offer a range of discounts to lower the cost you pay, too. Take the time needed to find the appropriate insurance for you and keep at it.  Once your policy expires next year, perform this simple search again since rates often change from year to year. Choose the company best suited for providing you with financial protection in the long term.
