Car Insurance Companies

Aren't All The Same

Car insurance companies range from small, locally owned and run companies to large, nationwide companies with many agents. Choosing the right car insurance company to do business with is not simple or straightforward because most companies offer a range of services, provide good customer service and they often offer various packages to help cut down the costs of insurance to you. Yet, they are not the same.  Each company should be closely compared before you select just one to work with.  In doing so, you will protect your long-term financial state.

What You Should Know

What should you know about car insurance from these companies?  By understanding the insurance process and how these companies work, you will be able to secure the best insurance for you.  One of the most important things to consider is the amount of insurance coverage you obtain from the company. The more insurance you want, the more costly it will be.  Yet, not having enough insurance could mean financial devastation if you are involved in a lawsuit down the road.  How you use your vehicle is one of the most important ways to determine cost. Your driving record, the amount of commuting you do yearly, and the overall type of use of your vehicle will determine how much liability insurance you need.

Second, you should look for and ask for discounts.  Most insurance companies offer discounts to help you save money. Some discounts can be quite lucrative, such as the multi policy discount.  If you bundle car insurance with your life insurance, health insurance or home insurance, chances are you will get a substantial discount on the entire premium.  There are other discounts as well.  For example, if you vehicle is equipped with air bags, anti lock brakes and daytime running lights, these are all going to provide you with a smaller premium payment, if you tell the insurance broker about them. Also, one of the most substantial discounts are anti theft devices such as car alarms. Ask for discounts.

Manage your deductible. Those that can afford to pay a bit more out of the pocket in times of small claims will be able to save money, too. You could lower your bill substantially if you ask the insurance company to raise your deductible to an acceptable level. Be careful; with a high deductible, you will need to pay that amount prior to the insurance kicking in to cover damage.
